OUR KIDS

Julia continued...

She came to see us and with the help of a social worker, we were able to go live at Hogar Infantil and only go home to live with our father if he stopped drinking. I didn’t want to leave my Mom while she was so sick, but I knew we couldn’t stay with our Dad. A few weeks after going to live at Hogar Infantil, we learned that our Mom died. Sometimes I still get sad about the things that have happened to me. But, I have a caring house parent, and I look to my brother and sister and other “siblings” at Hogar Infantil for support. My Dad sometimes comes to visit, and I know he loves me, but I also know I am better off here.

I like living at Hogar Infantil, it is my home since I was 4 years old, and I have a lot of brothers and sisters. I used to get into trouble a lot for fighting and taking other kids’ things, but I have learned so much in my 9 years at Hogar Infantil. I have learned to share and be a good friend. I still get into trouble sometimes, but I am so grateful that the people who care for me here don’t give up on me. They teach me how to be respectful to others and their things. School is not easy for me, but I work hard at it and have dreams of finishing high school and maybe even college someday. I don’t know what would have happened to me had I not come to Hogar Infantil, and I hope one day to help people the way that this home – my home - has helped me.”
