Education & Enrichment Programs
Elementary through high school students attend public school in Ocozocoautla. University and trade school students are transported to larger cities nearby for their education.
After school, the children are expected to finish their homework and provided with help as needed. There are spaces for study, a small library and computer room with monitored internet access.
cooking/baking
Hogar teens learn to cook and bake alongside a local baker a few days a week. They prepare baked goods, beverages, and side dishes for everyday as well as special events at Hogar Infantil, such as the Christmas party. Beyond cooking and baking skills, the young people learn planning and estimation skills, teamwork, and patience.
All of our kitchen equipment has been donated by local and international donors. Please contact us if you are interested in donating equipment, supplies or fresh ingredients.
Visual and Performing Arts Experiences
We partner with the local Casa de Cultura cultural center in Ocozocoautla to provide opportunities for performing arts, such as traditional Mexican folk dancing (danza folklórica), acting and dance routines for musical performances. In addition, volunteers from Mexico, the United States and beyond share their skills with the young people, including photography, portrait drawing and painting. Have a skill you’d like to share with Hogar? Please contact us. You can also donate through the button below toward our arts program.
SPORTS
Sports are big in Chiapas! Our young people learn teamwork and discipline through involvement in team and individual sports. We participate in regional leagues with our own soccer and volleyball teams and participate in sports like track through local schools—as well as pick-up games at the Ranch!
We need donations of suitable shoes and funds for shoes and uniforms—let us know if you can help.
English Lessons
English is a critical skill in Mexico—in fact, a working knowledge of English is now required for college entrance. To prepare our students for college if they choose that path, we partner with Multilanguage Space, owned by former Hogar resident Miguel Ochoa Castellanos [read his story HERE] to provide English lessons at the ranch.
Help our young people become international citizens by contributing to our English program.
